I believe everyone can benefit from counselling. You do not need to come with a specific problem, such as depression, grief and loss, anxiety or addiction. Counselling is about self-care. It is your time, and is as useful, relaxing and challenging as you choose to make it.
My approach is grounded in the belief that being understood and accepted by another person can help us better understand and accept ourselves. I aim to create a safe space where you can experience trust and acceptance, and explore what is happening for you at your own pace.
A typical session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. We discuss what you bring. If you bring nothing in particular, we can talk about what comes to mind. There are no expectations about having a topic ready. My approach is based on awareness: what you are thinking, feeling and noticing now.
Safety and trust are central. We discuss what you choose to discuss, when you are ready. Trust takes time, and you decide when it feels safe to share. I see personal change as emerging through self-acceptance, rather than self-criticism.
Confidentiality is important. What we discuss is not recorded. I take non-identifying information to my own professional supervision sessions, without identifying clients. My approach is influenced by my study of Gestalt Therapy and Social Work.
